This manuscript presents the modelling of a floating DC link capacitor as a series compensator for operating a grid-connected induction motor. The converters can produce high-frequency harmonics when the conventional three-phase H-bridge converter is used for voltage sag compensation. It can lead to electromagnetic interference (EMI) during switching action. EMI mitigation measures, such as filters, may be required to comply with regulatory standards. The proposed converter topology avoids this problem and the additional requirement of energy storage elements, transformers and power filters to mitigate the unbalanced voltage sags. An advanced artificial neural network (ANN) is developed for effective floating converter circuit switching operation. The following energy-minimized compensation (EMC) regulated floating DC link converter that is operated floating capacitors in charging and discharging modes. The ANN-based floating DC link converter maintained induction motor torque and speed at constant and obtained optimum THD in grid currents. The proposed series compensation topology has better ride-through capability against unbalanced voltage sags in grid voltage.
