This study analyzed the colors of the Indong pattern, inspired by the Ungang Cave in China, and suggested cultural product and color designs reflecting the characteristics of modern designs for the basic research on traditional cultural product designs. The Indong pattern of the Ungang Cave, a stone cave, shows harmony and splendor by using various techniques and appropriate contrast for artistic color expression. This study selected four main colors that were traditionally used. Additionally, identification, decoration, and symbolism were expressed by considering modern design factors. Colors were selected differently according to age and sex, and identification was emphasized through changes in saturation and brightness. Therefore, we designed draft designs for four series: [Hongyu], [Kyunghong], [Giyi], and [Jesu], and distinguished four different colors that symbolize spring, summer, fall, and winter according to the accessories of the four seasons. Although modifications to colors and patterns were proposed through expert interviews, they were highly appreciated. However, the modifications and supplements should continue considering consumers' and the country's preferences. The 16 color designs presented in this study are expected to show different preferences when applied to various materials, and have academic and business implications as designs that make modern use of traditional resources. This will help ensure that research on color design using traditional resources is actively conducted, considering the practicality of various expression materials and products in the future.
