This study reveals the figurative-semantic and emotional-affective aspects of M. Prymachenko's imagonyms, indicating their cultural significance.
The purpose of the study is to identify the peculiarities of the verbal-semantic, linguocognitive and emotional-affective levels of M. Prymachenko’s linguistic personality. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following main tasks: to qualify the main genres, themes and problems typical for the author; to analyze imagonyms according to figurative-semantic and emotional-evaluative criteria. The object of the study is M. Prymachenko’s imagonyms, and the subject is their semantic and linguocognitive parameters. The actual material consisted of 211 painting titles. The following research methods were used in the study: induction and deduction to study the author’s linguistic behavior; component analysis to examine the semantic components of imagonyms; the contextual-interpretative method to clarify the features of paintings’ nomination; and quantitative analysis to determine the frequency of the main lexical components of imagonyms. The figurative-semantic classification of imagonyms as an element of the analysis of the verbal-semantic level of a linguistic personality made it possible to divide them based on direct, figurative, and reinterpreted meanings and helped to determine the artist’s need to resort to metaphorical names. The linguistic-cognitive level of M. Prymachenko’s linguistic personality reflected the folklore-mythical, poetic- allegorical, moral-philosophical and national-cultural fragments of her worldview. Analysis of the emotional-affective level of the author’s linguistic personality allowed us to divide the titles of the paintings into imagonyms-emotions, imagonyms-greetings, nostalgic imagonyms, ironic imagonyms and respectful imagonyms, which manifest the features of her emotions and feelings. The prospect for further research lies in highlighting the linguistic and cultural aspects of the titles of paintings and in comparing their features with the imagonyms of other artists.
