This research demonstrates three-stage switching of magnetic and near-infrared properties, suggesting innovative applications for TCNQ˙- salts.
We report a liquescent 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane radical anion (TCNQ˙-) salt with an N,N'-di-n-octylimidazolium ion that exhibits unprecedented three-stage switching of magnetic and NIR-II absorption properties upon thermal stimulation. This behavior originates from stepwise transformations between co-facial and slipped-stacking π-dimers and monomeric TCNQ˙- species.
