Literature review identifies gaps in care for elderly with systemic arterial hypertension, highlighting critical needs.
Considering the increase in the elderly population, as well as the challenges characteristic of this phase, this study objective: understand the context of Primary Health Care for elderly people with Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH). Methodology: A literature review was carried out, consisting of nine scientific articles written in English and Portuguese, published in the online database SciELO. These materials were obtained through search strategies consisting of the descriptors: Primary Care, Elderly and Systemic Arterial Hypertension, mediated by the Boolean AND. Results and Discussion: The findings made it possible to identify the risk factors for systemic arterial hypertension in elderly people assisted in UBSs. As well as that there are hypertensive elderly people who have uncontrolled blood pressure, metabolic syndrome and severe symptoms of depression. The data also demonstrated the disconnection between the practice of care and the demands of the elderly population, who face difficulties in scheduling appointments, obtaining laboratory test results and obtaining medications in these units. Characterizing significant failures in Primary Health Care services. Final Considerations: The context of Primary Health Care for elderly individuals diagnosed with hypertension has proven to be worrying. Therefore, it is crucial to develop specific strategies for the prevention and control of systemic arterial hypertension and associated conditions in this population. To this end, it is necessary to organize health education sessions that promote knowledge about healthy lifestyles, encourage monitoring of blood pressure (BP) at home, and frequent medical appointments. Finally, further studies on this highly relevant topic are recommended.
