Abstract

This article presents various approaches to analyzing the events of 1869–1870 in the Kazakh steppe (in the Younger Zhuz) among representatives of prerevolutionary Russian and Soviet Kazakh historiography. At the same time, researchers' opinions vary depending on the aspects under consideration – from the causes of the unrest to the moral and ethical assessment of the actions of the participants on both sides. It is clear that the differences in assessments are also due to the specific nature of the historiography of the prerevolutionary and Soviet periods. For citation: Dubovikov A.M.
