The article considers the issue of optimizing the content component of independent work aimed at improving the process of forming language competence among students of non-linguistic specialized universities by means of the author’s didactic complex. The author reveals basic conditions aimed at organizing students’ effective independent work while preparing for foreign language classes. The paper presents the author’s vision according to which independent work while preparing for foreign language classes at the initial stage of training provides two main components: organizational and substantive, each of which has its own peculiarities. The basis of the content component is the author’s didactic complex, which has its advantages, purpose, basic principles of selecting grammar material and is one of the effective means to optimize the content component of students’ independent work while learning a foreign language.
