Commentary reveals love, faith, and hope drive Jürgen Moltmann's theology of life, highlighting its communal implications.
This article offers a commentary on The Way of Life (2019), a documentary on Jürgen Moltmann, to illustrate how Moltmann’s development of his theology is deeply intertwined with that of his late spouse Elisabeth-Moltmann Wendel. It argues that Moltmann’s life and thought are driven by love, faith and hope. Love, faith and hope are presented as the sources of the Christian joyful life, with love as the essential creative power that brings this life to fulfillment. Drawing on feminist theology and Christian mysticism, the article examines Moltmann’s late theology of life, exploring its mystical and emotional dimensions that remains hitherto largely unexplored both within and beyond Sinophone contexts. Moltmann’s new theology of life is marked by its embodied, communal, Christological, pneumatological and cosmological character.
