Geography of religion examines spatial organization of faith across regions, highlighting diverse influences and interdisciplinary approaches.
Religion as a spiritual phenomenon exists in the inner world of man. In its objectified forms, religion exists beyond subjective reality. Objectified forms of the presence of religion in the earthly world are studied by many sciences. Geography of religion is one of such sciences. Its object is the religious sphere (religiosphere) as one of the systems that form the geographic shell of the earth, and its subject is the organization of religion in geographic space. This science has come a long way and is currently actively developing under the influence of both regional and global demographic, migration and other factors. Russian science has extensive experience in studying the spatial organization of religions. The works of Russian geographers, ethnographers, archaeologists, religious scholars, sociologists, and cartographers have built a modern interdisciplinary structure of Russian geography of religion on a large empirical foundation. General patterns, results, and rates of development of geography in Russia correspond to pan-European trends.
