This study uncovers new methods for power combining and radiation pattern control in microstrip antennas, highlighting potential for advanced phased arrays.
Possible methods of power combining and radiation pattern control in microstrip antenna-oscillator arrays are investigated in the microwave range of electromagnetic waves with purpose of further use as active phased antenna arrays (APAA). Space power combining for active antennas based on Gunn diodes and field-effect transistors is demonstrated, and synchronization conditions of single elements in the antenna arrays are examined. The possibility of synchronizing generators and radiation pattern control using a semitransparent dielectric reflector is investigated.
