Case report shows refractive changes in post-hyperopic LASIK ectasia, indicating crosslinking is effective.
Post-hyperopic Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) ectasia is a rare entity; therefore, its refractive and topographic behavior, as well as its response to treatment with crosslinking, are not well documented. This article presents a case of bilateral post-hyperopic LASIK ectasia in a 40-year-old woman who underwent hyperopic LASIK surgery 20 years ago and developed bilateral visual impairment over the past year. The refractive and topographic findings are detailed, as well as the crosslinking response in comparison with the features described in post-myopic LASIK ectasia, evidencing an early occurrence of refractive and cornea posterior elevation changes, even when there has not been central thinning or significant bulging. Furthermore, crosslinking was shown to stabilize the pathology after 5 years of follow-up.
