Observational analysis measures road length using satellite navigation in Ukraine, highlighting the role of digital solutions.
Summary. The article discusses topical issues of information support for the road industry in Ukraine in the context of digitalization and the introduction of geographic information systems. The lack of reliable data on the road network, traffic characteristics, alternative solutions, and their consequences negatively affects the efficiency of road infrastructure. The main goal is to create a method for accounting for motorways based on a systematized database of relevant spatial data, which allows for the rational planning of measures for the maintenance, repair, and development of the road network. The use of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technologies allows for the accurate determination of the spatial coordinates of road objects, and the PDOP (Position Dilution of Precision) coefficient is a critical indicator of positioning accuracy when working with linear objects. The variability of PDOP values depending on the geometry of satellites and field conditions is considered, and methods for reducing errors in GPS surveying are described. Special attention is paid to methodological recommendations for calculating the accounting length of motorways and developing a digital model of the road network to create the prerequisites for the integration of intelligent transport systems, which are widely used in global practice to optimise traffic, collect tolls, manage parking, etc. Despite the high level of theoretical readiness of the industry, the implementation of these measures is complicated by limited funding due to the state of war. At the same time, the introduction of digital solutions is strategically important for ensuring effective road management in the long term.
