Literature review identifies critical criteria affecting safety performance in construction, suggesting management priorities.
The study aims to ascertain the important criteria influencing safety awareness and behaviors during the metro construction phase. Through a comprehensive literature review, thirty-five influencing criteria were identified and analyzed as a safety performance evaluation measure using SPSS software. Then, a survey questionnaire was designed to assess the level of agreement among participants about influencing capability of criteria in the Vietnamese construction environment on a five-point Likert scale. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed six underlying factors, including Education and training, Legal and political, Management, Cost and resource, Work environment, and Technical design. The findings indicated that the group of criteria related to management exerted the most significant influence on occupational safety outcomes. Subsequently, relationships and correlations among the latent factors from the EFA step were examined based on a linear regression analysis framework. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the criteria affecting safety performance, simultaneously proposing occupational safety measures to advance occupational health and safety management efficiency during the metro construction process. Additionally, the study motivates construction managers to prioritize the implementation of proactive safety management practices within construction projects to enhance worker well-being, improve overall safety conditions, and significantly mitigate occupational risks for construction tradesmen.
