This article is written for the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. The aim of the research is to present the most significant examples of the reflection of the war theme in the pieces of Russian children’s piano albums. Using the works of S. P. Banevich, G. M. Wagner, M. S. Weinberg, I. A. Zhvanetskaya, V. V. Korovitsyn, and I. A. Parfenov as examples, the arsenal of musical and expressive means with which composers reveal the theme of war is examined. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that in a historical retrospective – from the mid-19th to the beginning of the 21st century – the author examines the process of transformation of ideas of patriotism into images of war, which until now have not fallen into the objective of musicological works. As a result of the study, it was established that in the music of the albums, Russian composers strived for conditional forms of conveying the theme of war through its genre and figurative representatives.
