Quantitative content analysis reveals varying coverage of knowledge economy dimensions in a textbook, suggesting areas for improvement.
The study aimed to identify the extent to which the dimensions of the knowledge economy are included in the fourth-grade mathematics textbook in Palestine. A quantitative content analysis approach was employed, with the "idea" adopted as the unit of analysis. The study sample consisted of both parts of the fourth-grade mathematics textbook. A content analysis checklist was designed to examine the inclusion of the knowledge economy dimensions: cognitive, intellectual, economic, social, and evaluative. The checklist was applied after verifying its validity and reliability using scientific methods. The results revealed that the textbook incorporates knowledge economy dimensions to varying degrees, with the evaluative dimension scoring the highest (32.83%), followed by the intellectual dimension (31.84%), the cognitive dimension (22.98%), the economic dimension (7.76%), and finally the social dimension (4.57%). The study recommended giving due attention to all knowledge economy skills when developing the fourth-grade mathematics textbook in Palestine. The originality of the study lies in its direct examination of the inclusion of knowledge economy dimensions in Palestinian mathematics curricula. Its main contribution is the provision of quantitative indicators that can guide curriculum development to better align with the requirements of the knowledge society.
