Analysis reveals the influence of overvoltage processes on voltage amplitude in substations, suggesting methods of protection using nonlinear limiters.
The study of overvoltage processes in the electric circuit of a static thyristor compensator (STC) during switching of ca-pacitor banks is conducted. A numerical method for calculating overvoltages when switching on capacitor banks is presented, and its adequacy is verified using a mathematical model in the Matlab software package with the Simulink ap-plication. Their influence on the voltage amplitude on the 220/35 kV substation buses is shown. Methods of reducing overvoltages for protecting electrical equipment using nonlinear overvoltage limiters and R-C circuits, including 35 kV cable lines, are considered. Their effectiveness is proven both when used together and when working separately.
