Field cases demonstrate improved recovery and water flood efficiency in carbonate reservoirs, suggesting chemical methods enhance injectivity management.
Significant potential for higher recovery remain in complex carbonate reservoirs especially where water flood sweep efficiency is challenging. This paper share field cases of chemical (especially around polymer gel) deep conformance control, water injection well injectivity improvements (non-mechanical). The results of a large number of recent applications from carbonate reservoirs operated by CNPC affiliates or CNPC partners are reviewed. Challenges and risks are highlighted. Recommendations for unlocking complex carbonate reservoir potential via improving water flood sweep and injectivity using chemical approach are made.
