Example citations are essential for conveying meaning in dictionaries, particularly in digital, corpus-based formats. However, there is currently no systematic approach to selecting appropriate examples, especially in thematically and diachronically specialized lexicographic resources. This paper addresses this issue using the Pandemictionary as a case study – a digital dictionary of historical pandemic-related vocabulary developed within the interdisciplinary LODinG project. Examining examples from the historical cholera vocabulary, the study explores the extent to which established criteria in lexicographic research can be applied to the development of a digital, historically oriented dictionary. The findings aim to contribute a methodological impulse to digital lexicography in historically specialized linguistic domains and to support the development of transparent, functional, and user-oriented practices in the selection and presentation of dictionary examples.
