Research finds a 2.21 eV band gap in SmFe0.5Cr0.5O3, indicating potential for water splitting via electrocatalytic reactions.
Double Perovskites, where the B‐site is disordered, have been extensively studied because of their remarkable applications. We investigated the structural, magnetic, electronic, and catalytic responses of SmFe 0.5 Cr 0.5 O 3 (SFCO). We synthesized the compound successfully through the solid‐state method. The compound crystallizes in Orthorhombic structure with space group Pbnm as investigated using a powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) study. Magnetic investigation data (both M‐T and M‐H) confirm the existence of a weak ferromagnetic nature with T C at 290 K. The band gap of 2.21 eV, using an emission wavelength of 656 nm, indicates it as a visible light catalyst. The electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) study reveals the potential application of SFCO in water splitting.
