Case report shows Korean medicine reduces pain and improves muscle strength in a patient post-endovascular aneurysm repair, indicating potential benefits for peripheral artery disease.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of Korean medicine on peripheral artery disease (PAD) symptoms after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms. Methods: A 73-year-old woman developed pain, muscle weakness, sensory abnormalities, and coldness in her right lower limb after EVAR and was treated with herbal medicine (Gamiboik-tang), acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and bloodletting for 21 days. Clinical changes were assessed using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Manual Muscle Testing, gait tracking, and ankle brachial index. Results: After treatment, the patient's symptoms, including pain, paresthesia, and cold sensation, were significantly reduced (NRS 0-1), and muscle strength and ambulatory capacity improved. Conclusion: This case suggests that Korean medical treatment may be effective in alleviating PAD symptoms and improving limb function after EVAR.
