Conceptual framework reveals that Digital Transformation and Generative AI boost innovation and resilience in organizations, suggesting a need for integrated digital ecosystems.
This conceptual study examines how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Digital Transformation (DT) jointly function as strategic enablers of Business Model Innovation (BMI) and Organizational Resilience (OR). Despite the rapid expansion of AI-enabled transformation, theoretical clarity remains limited regarding the mechanisms through which cognitive (GenAI) and structural (DT) digital capabilities co-evolve to enhance strategic renewal. Drawing on the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities View (DCV), the paper develops an integrated framework that positions GenAI and DT simultaneously as VRIN digital resources and as sensing–seizing dynamic capabilities. The proposed model theorizes a synergistic capability system in which GenAI and DT enable continuous BMI, which subsequently strengthens OR as a meta-capability that reinforces adaptive learning and reconfiguration. Five theoretical propositions articulate the pathways linking digital complementarity to innovation and resilience. The study contributes to strategic management and digital transformation scholarship by offering a unified DCV–RBV lens that explains how AI-enabled organizations build recursive, self-reinforcing cycles of sensing, innovation, and resilience. Practical and policy implications highlight the importance of designing integrated AI–DT ecosystems that support sustainable competitiveness in volatile environments.
