Discussion outlines aortic assessment methods, highlighting discrepancies in guidelines and recommending standardization to improve patient care.
Accurate assessment of aortic dimensions via two‐dimensional (2D) transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is essential for diagnosing and managing aortic pathologies. However, discrepancies exist in measurement techniques between published guidelines, which can result in patients requiring further evaluation using computed tomography (CT). Standardization of techniques in TTE could benefit patient care by reducing the need for unnecessary exposure to radiation associated with CT. This paper describes the various TTE aortic dimension measurement methods, exploring the differences between guidelines and offering recommendations for consistency.
