Analysis reveals significant economic security disparities in Central Federal District, suggesting a need for comprehensive investment support.
Economic security is a crucial condition for ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of regions. At the same time, the level of regional economic security is one of the key factors of national security. In this context, assessing the provision of economic security not only for individual regions but also for macro-regions – federal districts – becomes particularly important. The object of the study is the Central Federal District (CFD), which includes 18 subjects of the Russian Federation. The district represents one of the most dynamically developing and strategically significant macro-regions of the country and plays a key role in ensuring national economic security. The subject of the research is the economic security of the Central Federal District. The goal of the study is to assess the level of economic security provision in the Central Federal District, which is a key economic center of Russia. To evaluate the state of economic security provision in the regions, the approach proposed by V. K. Senchagov and S. N. Mityakov was used. The article presents an analysis of the state of economic security in the CFD in the context of its current economic development from 2019 to 2023. The research revealed significant disparities in the level of socio-economic development among the regions included in the Central Federal District. The CFD is one of the key economic centers of Russia; however, the identified deviations in index values from threshold values indicate the presence of threats to economic security, which negatively affect the sustainable development of the macro-region. To eliminate the identified threats, it is necessary to implement comprehensive support measures aimed at developing the economies of the CFD and enhancing their investment attractiveness. Only a systematic approach to ensuring economic security will allow for sustainable development of the regions in the Central Federal District in the long term. The article is of interest to specialists in the field of economic security and regional economics, as well as regional authorities for formulating effective policies in the area of ensuring economic security in the regions.
