Analysis reveals electrochemical machining creates heterogeneous surface features in TC4 titanium alloy, indicating potential for improved processing.
In this article, the distribution of the main constituent elements Titanium, Aluminum and Vanadium in TC4 titanium alloy materials and its influence on the surface forming of electrochemical machining are studied at the microscopic. It is concluded that the distribution of the constituent elements of TC4 titanium alloy is heterogeneous, the heterogeneity in the presence of electrochemical reactions enables a priority for their surface processing. At the same time, under the influence of the gap electric field, surface material is processed away. Through the combined effects of compositional differences and the gap electric field, dissolved layer by lay, resulting in honeycomb micro-pits on the electrochemically processed surface. The size of the honeycomb micro-pits is similar to the size and structure of the α-phase crystal cell, that is, the surface accuracy of TC4 titanium alloy processed through electrochemical machining does not exceed the size of the α-phase.
