Key Points

  • Lower risk of atrial fibrillation observed with GLP-1 receptor agonists in overweight individuals, indicating potential cardioprotective benefits.
  • Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials revealed a significant correlation between GLP-1 receptor agonists and reduced incident AF events.
  • Systematic review explored various studies on the impact of GLP-1 receptor agonists among individuals with obesity and overweight conditions.
  • Findings suggest that benefits of GLP-1 receptor agonists may persist even without substantial weight loss, emphasizing their therapeutic potential.

Abstract

Among individuals with overweight or obesity, GLP-1RAs and co-agonists were associated with a lower risk of incident AF event. This cardioprotective benefit may, at least in part, operate independently of the magnitude of weight loss.
