Research reveals covalent bonding characteristics in a bis(silaselenone) using NMR and natural bond orbital analysis.
The compounds containing SiSe bond, are rarely reported in the literature. Silaselenones are the class of compounds that possess SiSe bond. Herein, we report a bis(silaselenone) ( 3 ) that contains two SiSe bonds. The compound 3 was characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and NMR spectroscopy. The nature of bonding in compound 3 has been studied by employing natural bond orbital analysis and energy decomposition analysis‐natural orbital for chemical valence (EDA‐NOCV). The bonding analysis by employing EDA‐NOCV method showed that compound 3 possesses two electron sharing covalent sigma bonds between the silicon atoms of silylene and SiPh 2 group.
