Tailored blanks, characterised by localised property variations, are designed to optimise material usage and improve the performance of automotive components. In addition to fabricating novel tailored blanks through numerical simulations, this study investigates the influence of friction coefficient and groove angle on localised strain and formability of tailored blanks using the constrained groove pressing process at different locations. The study highlights their relationship through numerical simulations of the tailored blank. The section of tailored blanks subjected to higher groove angles is expected to exhibit greater strength than those with lower groove angles. This work presents an accurate artificial neural network prediction model to predict localised strain distribution and formability for any given friction coefficient and groove angle input values. Carefully selecting groove angles is essential for achieving the desired formability in tailored blanks during manufacturing processes.
