Genome assembly provides detailed insights into Erebia medusa's genetic makeup, highlighting key genes in this butterfly species.
<ns3:p> We present a genome assembly from a female specimen of <ns3:italic>Erebia medusa</ns3:italic> (Woodland Ringlet; Arthropoda; Insecta; Lepidoptera; Nymphalidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 542.85 megabases and 425.95 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (99.77%) is scaffolded into 12 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 15.27 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly on Ensembl identified 14 277 protein-coding genes. This work is part of Project Psyche, a collaborative programme generating genomes for European butterflies and moths. </ns3:p>
