This article examines parliamentary diplomacy's impact on governance norms in West Africa, indicating its potential amidst political fragility.
This article examines how international parliamentary organisations engage with situations of constitutional rupture following coups d’état in West Africa, focusing on Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea between 2020 and 2023. Using a constructivist and post-Westphalian perspective, it analyses how parliamentary diplomacy contributes to shaping norms of legitimate governance through discursive and symbolic practices. The study highlights both the potential and structural limits of parliamentary actors in contexts marked by institutional fragility and contested political legitimacy.
