This work establishes a thermoelastic diffusion model that shows transient behaviors in sandwich composites under laser heating, suggesting broader manufacturing applications.
Laser heating technologies, represented by the metallic materials forming/processing, have been extensively utilized in the advanced materials manufacturing, where the nonlocal and memory‐dependent dual‐phase‐lagging characteristics of heat and mass transport, as well as the size effect of the elastic deformation, significantly increase. This work aims to establish a new thermoelastic diffusion model based on Eringen differential elasticity and a fractional‐order dual‐phase‐lag (DPL) Cattaneo‐type heat‐mass transport model with Atangana–Baleanu (AB) and Tempered–Caputo (TC) fractional derivatives. The developed model is applied to investigate transient thermoelastic diffusion behaviors of 1D sandwich metallic composites subjected to the ultra‐short pulse laser heating. In calculation, the Laplace transformation method is adopted to capture the dynamics solutions in a time‐domain. The results reveal that the memory‐dependent parameters, laser parameters, and material property ratios predict lower levels of the transient dynamic responses and slower propagation speeds of thermal/diffusive wave.
