Analysis reveals characteristic times in local seismic sequences of the Baikal Rift Zone, suggesting patterns in earthquake distribution.
With the help of covariation point analysis, spatial-temporal distributions of earthquakes are examined in intense local sequences of events with K = 7–8 (swarms, aftershocks, and shocks in concentration zones) of the Baikal Rift Zone. An attempt has been made to quantitatively estimate the grouping characteristic. This estimate is proposed to be used for describing corresponding seismic collections with a uniform-distance statistical model. Characteristic times are defined to be 1/8 and 1/16 day (generalized period). A connection of the characteristic times with the spatial distribution of earthquakes has been determined.
