ARHGAP1 overexpression increases apoptosis by ~66% in H9c2 cells under hypoxic conditions.
ARHGAP1 promotes hypoxia-induced apoptosis in myocardial cells and may serve as a novel molecular marker and potential therapeutic target in ischemic cardiomyopathy.

ARHGAP1 may warrant investigation as a target in ischemic cardiomyopathy; animal data leave open translation to clinical practice.
Our results show that the ARHGAP1 expression is closely associated with apoptosis of myocardial cells, which in turn leads to ICM. Thus, ARHGAP1 may become a novel molecular marker of the hypoxia‑induced apoptosis pathway and serve as a potential therapeutic target in patients with ICM.

Zhang et al. (2019) studied ischemic cardiomyopathy. ARHGAP1 overexpression vs. Control (untreated H9c2 cells) was evaluated on Cell viability and apoptosis rates in H9c2 cells following ARHGAP1 overexpression under hypoxic conditions (null, 95% CI null, p=<0.01). ARHGAP1 overexpression in H9c2 cells under hypoxic conditions induced apoptosis, leading to an increase in apoptosis rate to approximately 13.3% compared to control cells with an 8% apoptosis rate.
