ABSTRACT First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Yuqi Ye and Zhengyang Guo are co-first authors on ‘ Hyperactive microtubule binding of RP1L1 R45W underlies retinal degeneration and is suppressed by glycerol’, published in JCS. Yuqi is a PhD student in the lab of Guangshuo Ou at School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, investigating how molecular changes in cytoskeletal proteins influence cellular organization, using both experimental and computational approaches. Zhengyang is a PhD student in the same laboratory, investigating deciphering the molecular syntax of life to engineer novel biological functions through the convergence of deep learning and molecular dynamics.
