Despite their best intentions, some new graduate registered nurses’ first year of practice is marred by a medication error. This phenomenological study sampled ( n = 10) nurses who experienced a medication error during their transition-to-practice program. The use of inductive and deductive coding revealed an array of emotions aligning with the Second Victim Syndrome framework. Nursing professional development practitioners should foster psychological safety by normalizing medication errors and supporting new graduates in their recovery.
