Testing visual evoked response measures refractive status accurately, indicating higher myopia levels than traditional methods.
Subjects were tested to determine their refractive status using the computer‐derived Visual Evoked Response (VER). Measurements were sensitive to ±0.25 D sphere or better. The high degree of precision was attributed to use of a difference curve analysis, the Oz‐Pz electrode montage, small size pattern elements, and small graduations in test lens size. The values obtained by VER methods indicated more myopia than by standard techniques. The VER tests were conducted in darkness and the results may be an objective measure of night myopia. A program is suggested for semi‐automatic refractive measurements by digital computer.
