All experiments demonstrate effective methods for maintaining microbiological safety of hydrophilic contact lenses, implying improved user safety.
Contact lenses made of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) are capable of autoclaving and repeated exposure to steam or boiling water. These procedures are effective methods of maintaining the microbiological safety of hydrophilic contact lenses on the shelf and while being worn by patients. Experiments and tests are described to support the above statements. Simple devices used to achieve these results are illustrated and described.
