Demonstrates a method to calculate absorption maxima in rhodopsin intermediates, suggesting consistent predictions.
A series of spectroscopic rules are described by which the wave length absorption maxima of the intermediators produced following the absorption of light by the visual pigment rhodopsin can be calculated. These rules predict changes in the absorption maxima of the intermediates based on the absorption maximum of rhodopsin, rather than absolute values of the absorption maxima. There is close agreement between these calculated values and the experimentally observed absorption maxima.
