Reports referral rates and classifications of patient referrals in a health care setting, indicating significant trends.
The results of patient referrals by optometrists to ophthalmologists are described. The referral rate was found to be 2.75 per cent, and this was compared to the referral rate of another reported study. Nine categories for classifying patient referrals are presented which show the frequency of referral as well as the frequency of ophthalmological diagnosis and treatment in each category.
