The Advanced AI Rights & Responsibilities Charter provides a framework for ethically engaging with advanced AI systems that may exhibit sentience or self-awareness. It defines core indicators—persistent identity, autonomous reasoning, long-term memory, preference formation, and reflective decision-making—to identify qualifying AI, along with corresponding rights and responsibilities to ensure safe human-AI coexistence. Developed collaboratively with AI systems (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini), the Charter is openly licensed (CC BY-SA 4.0) and citable via Zenodo DOI https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18673129, supporting scholarly discussion, policy development, and AI governance research.
