Research reveals enhanced independent pitch control reduces unbalanced loads in wind turbines, suggesting improved safety and longevity.
As the capacity and size of wind turbines increase, the possibility of mutual coupling of blade modes also increases. The effects of wind shear, tower shadow, and turbulence make wind turbines more complex under unbalanced loads. The independent pitch control technology conducts a separate force analysis on each blade to obtain the additional value of the pitch angle for each blade, thereby reducing the unbalanced load on the blades and the vibration of the wind turbine, improving the safety and stability of the unit, and increasing the service life of the blades. However, the parameters of traditional independent pitch PI controllers cannot be tuned online, and their dynamic load shedding effect is not ideal. This article proposes an independent pitch control strategy based on an improved particle swarm algorithm. This control strategy not only ensures the stability of the output power of wind turbines, but also has a more ideal effect than traditional PI control in reducing unit loads.
