Investigation of prevalence of RH antigens in blood donors reveals compatibility issues for sickle cell disease patients.
Background: Patients with sickle cell disease are at risk of making antibodies to RH antigens, posing compatibility problems for further transfusions. Knowledge of population-specific blood group profiles is important to inform design of screening platforms for compatibility testing. Here we investigate the prevalence of RH antigens in donors presenting at the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service (KNBTS).
