Key Points

  • This research aims to clarify the seasonal variability of micro- and meso-plastic concentrations in two rivers.
  • Conducted monthly assessments of micro-plastic and meso-plastic concentrations in Tamagawa and Tsurumi rivers from 2021.
  • Collected a total of 79 data points (40 from Tamagawa and 39 from Tsurumi rivers).
  • Analyzed seasonal peak concentrations and correlation with rainfall indicators.
  • MMP concentrations peaked in the summer in Tsurumi river and in spring and summer in Tamagawa river.
  • No significant statistical difference was found between MMP concentrations in wet and dry seasons.
  • A significant positive correlation with rainfall indicators was observed only in Tamagawa river.
