Experiments assess bending strength of steel tube-covered concrete piles, suggesting enhanced earthquake resistance.
Prestressed high-strength concrete piles (PHC pile) are a kind of prefabricated concrete pile. PHC piles covered by steel tube (SPHC pile) were experimented bending tests and bending shear test for the purpose of more less damages of piles on big earthquake. Allowable bending strength of SPHC piles are evaluated safely by the superposed strength of allowable bending strength of steel tube and PHC pile. Ultimate bending strength of SPHC piles are evaluated safely by utilizing section partition method, under the limit of compressive concrete strain 0.5%. SPHC piles have very high strength and high ductility.
