This research examines vibration suppression in light-gauge steel floor systems, indicating effective design strategies.
Office buildings of Light-gauge Steel Structures have long floor spans in recent years. Design methods for suppression of vibrations induced by walkers are necessary for the lightweight floors. One approach is to use two-way action of joist floors that have been published by research reports for timber structures. Effects of boards on the steel joist, anti-vibration bars and lateral stiffeners are shown by acceleration measurements under ball and walking excitation. Also time history calculation of the single-degree-of-freedom system as easy design methods is introduced in this paper.
