Science & technology deals with device processing measurement and observation, materials & phenomenon on nanometers scale are collectivity known as nanotechnology. The reduction of friction is the primary goal behind the purpose for lubrication. Although there are many ways to reduce friction. The most common method is using fluid or semi fluid. Solid lubrication is a key technique when liquid lubricants are unsatisfactory to the advance requirement and nanotechnology based solid lubricants-which are spherical inorganic nanoparticles (non layered structure) are significantly proved to be better lubricants than the conventional lubricants possessing layered structure, even in extremely harsh conditions. Nanolub is the first commercial nanotechnology based solid lubricant in the world. Spherical inorganic nanoparticles have a unique structure of hollow nested sphere that lubricate by rolling like miniature ball bearing and reduce wear and tear, friction between moving objects (like engine part) enabling longer operation and higher efficiency. Present paper deals with the new commercial Solid Lubrication based on spherical nanoparticles as advanced antifriction material that can be used as dry lubricant, Coating and for impregnating parts to reduce friction and wear. Their types, structure, properties and applications.
