Rural multi-functional development is the key paradigm to guide the transformation and upgrading of agriculture and rural areas and the practice of urban-rural integration. However, the existing research ignores the key role of individual rural residents in the transformation of rural space. In order to deeply reveal the internal relationship between the activity rules and multi-functionality of multiple actors in rural space, this paper applies the location data of mobile phone signaling to the multi-functionality evaluation at the village scale, and constructs the three functional index systems of residential, employment and consumption in rural space. Taking the typical villages in Chongqing, a mountainous and hilly area, as the research area, this paper conducts an empirical analysis of the multi-functionality evaluation and its influencing factors at the village scale. The results show that the rural space with similar location conditions and regional characteristics shows different dominant functions on working days, weekends and holidays, which can be further divided into the combination of agriculture and tourism, part-time competition, modern park type and urban life type. As a useful attempt of big data method in the field of rural geography, the research conclusion can provide scientific reference for the classification of rural revitalization strategy to promote rural development.
