This study focuses on the former Maeda family’s Kamakura villa, one of the most valuable legacies of the Kamakura villa culture that has developed from the Meiji period to the present day. Since its construction in 1890, the Kamakura villa has undergone numerous extensions and renovations. Clarifying the process of its transformation is considered valuable for both the history of Kamakura villas and the history of changes in modern housing. Therefore, this paper clarifies the process of construction of the Western-style building, which is one part of that transformation process.
