Determines reaction rates of hydroxybenzoic acids with carboxymethyl radical, suggesting structure impacts reactivity.
The rate constants of the reactions of hydroxybenzoic acids with the carboxymethyl radical have been determined in this study using steady-state radiolysis. The reaction rate constants depend on the structure of the acids and vary in the range of (6.5−15.4) × 105 L mol–1 s–1. Quantum chemical calculations of the antiradical activity of the test phenolic acids have been performed using the hydrogen atom transfer model. The calculated results agree well with the experimental data.
