A survey uncovers new fungal species in salt marshes, showing ecological diversity in Nova Scotia.
Ascomycete and Deuteromycete species growing on Spartina alterniflora Loisel., S. patens (Ait.) Muhl., and wood blocks were examined from the salt marshes bordering on the Minas Basin, Kings County, Nova Scotia. These collections were obtained from four salt marshes and ten intertidal salt marsh pools, and the fungal flora of the collection sites was compared. A chemical analysis was completed on one pool from each of three salt marshes. Fourteen ascomycetes, nine deuteromycetes, and one basidiomycete are recorded and discussed with thirteen of these species being new records for Nova Scotia.
