Accra's slums face significant waste management challenges, with recycling participation rates often low. A mixed-methods design combining quantitative surveys (n=200) and qualitative interviews with focus groups to explore perceptions, behaviors, and factors influencing waste management practices. Recycling participation varied significantly by slum area, with an average of 45% increased engagement following awareness campaigns in areas with higher socio-economic status. Awareness campaigns had a positive but variable impact on recycling behaviour across Accra's diverse slums. Tailored education programmes and community-led initiatives are recommended to enhance recycling participation sustainably. recycling, awareness campaigns, waste management, Accra, slum communities
